We have spent the past few days learning and working with the welcoming community of Chilcapamba. They have shared stories, culture, history, and joy with us and have made us feel at home while being so far away. Our first morning we took a long walk with our maestros to learn about the history of the water project here in our village. We learned that it was only in 2014 that each home started to receive water directly, through a tube system that they built by hand, which runs from the water source to a large central tank and then to each individual home. Our job is to clean the area around the tank, and then paint it in order to maintain the tank which holds the clean water. Our afternoons are spent working more directly with the people of the community on a personal project. We have been working on an array of projects, including animal care, English lessons, cooking class, and agriculture! As we reflect on our experience together we realize more and more the richness of this experience and all that we have learned in such a short amount of time.
